Chronic stress can cause a variety of health problems, spanning from small issues to life-threatening diseases. There are many steps that can be taken to alleviate stress. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction exercise can help decrease the risk of developing certain diseases related to stress (Stults-Kolehmainen & Sinha, 2014).
Many older adults experience problems with their joints which may eventually require a total joint replacement for joints such as hips, knees, and shoulders. After total knee replacement surgery 37%-55% of people do not experience their desired level of improvement which may result from pain, lack of therapy, or noncompliance with surgeons’ recommendations (Liao, Liou, Huang, & Huang, 2013). Individuals with multiple medical problems may be prescribed several medications. Polypharmacy is the use of five or more medications being prescribed and taken by the individual. Problems related to drug interactions between several medications can be minimized with proper education and organization. The purpose of this paper is to provide a background of polypharmacy and to help individuals increase self-advocacy with their medications.
In America, it estimated that 29 to 31 % of adults are living with hypertension. A commonly used term for hypertension is high blood pressure. Also, due to the aging Baby Boomer population, the number of older adults with high blood pressure is expected to increase (Basile & Bloch, 2016). The purpose of this article is to define blood pressure and high blood pressure, list risk factors for high blood pressure, identify ways to prevent high blood pressure, and discuss complications which can occur from high blood pressure.
